Fading & UV FilmsYou no longer need to close your blinds or curtains to reduce fading. Window film will reduce fading of your valuable furnishings and not obstruct your view.UV ProtectionWhy take the risk with the sun’s harmful UV rays? Elite Window Films range of window films all block over 99% of the sun’s harmful ultra-violet (UV) rays entering your home or workplace while maintaining your unobstructed view. Glass windows or doors in a house blocks most of the UVB rays, but does not necessarily block out UVA rays. UVA Radiation
FadingKeep your precious furnishings look newer for longer. The effects of the sun will, over time, fade and deteriorate carpet, curtains, furniture, artwork, photographs and wood. The sun’s UV rays, visible light and infra-red rays are all significant contributing factors which cause the fading. The hotter the fabric or material gets the quicker it will fade. Different fabrics and materials fade at different rates e.g. natural fabrics such as cotton appear to fade faster that other fabrics. The total contribution to fading of each individual factor is also different for different fabrics e.g. the UV rays may be responsible for 40% of the fading of one type of fabric but 60% of another type of fabric. ‘Fade reduction’ percentages for each film are shown in the Specifications page. These percentages have determined using the ‘damage weighted transmission’ method. The ‘damage weighted transmission’ method uses an average figure based on tests which suggests that cutting out the UV rays will reduce fading by 53% when compared to 3mm clear glass. A clear film, blocking 99% of the UV rays with no light or heat energy rejection, will reduce fading (caused by the sun) by 53%, in accordance with the ‘damage weighted transmission’ method. The following table shows approximate fade reduction (caused by the sun) percentages that can be expected when using different amounts of tint, when compared to 3mm clear glass:
Window film comes in a range of shades which gives the customer the option of choosing extra protection from the sun’s light and heat. Elite Window Films will give samples of window film to customers, along with figures of the approximate reduction of fading caused by the sun. |
